Before we jump into today’s blog, I want to give a quick reminder. Please book your events as early as possible. The fall season is our busiest time of the year. Joy Set is booked at Fall Festivals at schools and churches all over Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson. We also will be at the weekend games for our local hockey team, the Greenville Road Warriors. We have corporate events scheduled for businesses taking advantage of comfortable outdoor weather. And of course there are many birthday parties for which we will be providing shows, balloon twisting, face painting, magic, and / costumed characters. We love being birthday party entertainers and respected and requested balloon artists and face painters. We are grateful to so busy. Since we network with other party professionals such as the Balloon Fairy, Jay Dee Productions (JD the Balloon Guy), The Balloon Pirates, and a host of others we are generally able to cover most special events. Just give us ample time to secure the best entertainers for your needs.
Most people know that I twist balloons regularly at restaurants in Greenville and Spartanburg, SC. For many years it has been a win, win, win situation. I am happy because I can entertain on what is usually a slower night for me. The restaurants are happy because more and more customers come in both for the wonderful food and the great balloon sculptures. And of course the customers are happy because the entire family is entertained while they are waiting for their fresh and delicious food. Often times the regular customers like to get a little more creative with their balloon requests. And many like to play Stump the Balloon Guy.
Stump the Balloon Guy is played like this. Try to come up with the most complex, crazy, and elaborate balloon sculpture to see if the Tie Dye Balloon Guy can make it. Sometimes the requests are open ended, like “Make me the coolest balloon creation ever.” No pressure there! Sometimes it consists of the add on (I want a giant monkey climbing a building with helicopters flying overhead and soldier shooting a bazooka at the monkey and a car is on fire and ….). And sometimes the requests are just a little bizzare (a oppossum in a barbecue grill).
I usually don’t mind this game. It keeps me on my toes and helps me think outside of the box. And many times I get ideas for new balloons to add to my repertoire. The kids are happy if they get the balloon they requested. And on the occassion when I do get stumped the kids enjoy gloating a little. I generally tell people that I am able to make most anything within the realms of time and taste. I used to tell people that I had to see a picture of something to make it, but now young kids are carrying smart phones and tablets.
So, what idea do you have for a balloon creation? Feel free to check out Joy Set’s calendar page. You are welcome to come out to any public performance from Joy Set Entertainment. If time permits, you too can play a round of Stump the Balloon Guy.
I love the sound of this game! It really does sound like an excellent exercise in creativity and thinking outside the box with any creation. I think I might give them a category to try and keep them realistic. Maybe, give me an animal that I can’t make out of balloons. Regardless, I’m going to have to give this a try!
